History
Genesis Ensemble is a group of artists, actors, directors, writers, designers, musicians, teaching artists and performance artists. We are based in Chicago where we develop and create work as an ensemble.

Genesis Ensemble evolved from a small group of woman that came to Chicago after finding a passion for exploring non-traditional forms of theatre while studying in Ohio. Their work began at Miami University with an ensemble-generated performance – The Genesis Project. Later at Miami, they founded a civic and community-based theatre company, Walking Theatre Project, which devised original plays around topical issues.

In Chicago, building off their roots in ensemble-based and devised theatre, they began with a series of informal performances in collaboration with other companies and festivals. In the spring of 2008 they created a performance installation piece inspired by Tom Horan's play Curious Dangerous that was performed at The Mill Theatre's Etcetera Festival and became the lobby installation for Collision Theatre’s run of the play at EP Theatre, directed by Libby Ford. In August of 2008 they performed a short piece entitled Midsummer 2.0 for the Femme 2008 Conference at the Center on Halsted.

Genesis Ensemble became a company, incorporated in the state of Illinois, in 2008. They have produced three full-length devised pieces-- The Secrets Project, sweet, half-darkness, and In Love’s Bright Coils as well as their most recent workshop of Between Now and Five Billion Years which is soon to be developed into a full-length piece; and two performance shorts The Wood Demon and TCG Pop-Up Performance. Genesis has performed at the Cincinnati and Chicago Fringe Festivals, The 2010 TCG Conference and Red Tape’s CFANN 2009 and 2010.
